<p>I have always had a fascination with yoga. When I was younger, I thought of it as a technology that will take one to samadhic bliss. I was hooked on yogis floating in the air …WOW!</p>
<p>Well, now I believe that deep meditation is great for the end of a hard day but is limited. However, I am now WOWed by the physical benefits of doing yoga postures.</p>
<p>I tried out yoga – with a DVD yesterday. Yes that is the one you see at the header of this write. And I must say I recommend it.</p>
<p>Not trying to plant negative messages in your mind but irrespective of whether you have or do not have a problem with muscles and joints, prevention is better than cure. Yoga stretches are a great way to give those muscles a good stretch and workout.</p>
<p>The truth is that muscles lose their strength and tone as the years go by. The solution is to keep them toned. That way, the aches and stiffness which may account for bad backs and what-nots will not become trouble.</p>
<p>Simple stretches in yoga works out our entire torso. I find the mountain pose great for the neck, the upward facing dog great for the shoulders and the forward bend great for the back.<img class="alignright size-full wp-image-281" title="pic_yoga-inversion" src="http://www.cherishwellness.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pic_yoga-inversion.jpg" alt="pic yoga inversion Muscle Aches and Pains? <p>We do live in a beautiful world, don’t we? At least those of us who read this do. We have gone beyond the ‘ eat to live’ set and become ‘eat not to live’.</p>
<p>Consider this. We carefully chose the type of food we eat, not simply to stay alive but so that we can stay well. We go to great lengths, driving those extra miles to the organic store. Ordinary apples are not enough. They are best organic. They cost more but that is no issue. Yes.. we live as the gods do.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.bswa.org/">Ajahn Brahm</a> told the humorous tale of a couple who ended up in heaven resplendent with all goodness and fringe benefits that only heaven can offer. After realizing the goodness that was theirs, the hubby gave the wifey a good whack on the head for delaying his entry to heaven. She had been feeding him all those health food all those years!</p>
<p>Really. Our body health is important but at the same time our mental health is also important, maybe more so. Looking around, we see many grim faces. Too many are on a mission to destroy themselves. Maybe we should learn to lift those emotional burdens off our shoulders.</p>
<p>We live too much by stomping to the beat of society and worse, our own expectations. We want too much of the chocolate pie. We create our own conditions which by and large are hardly attainable. Maybe it is not that they are unattainable but simply that we keep changing them for higher ones, just like upgrading to a better car. In the end those stomps become stomps of inner tantrums.</p>
<p>Maybe heaven is reachable by being just where we are. Dealing with our inner self could be the starting point of getting there.<br />

<p>Papaya contains the enzyme called papain, a protease that breaks down tough meat fibers, which is used as a natural meat tenderizer.  Papain is also used as a topical application in the treatment of cuts, rashes, stings and burns.  Papain ointment is commonly made from fermented papaya flesh and is applied as a gel-like paste.  Also available at the pharmacies is a small tablet, which helps in all forms of inflammation.  I find it especially useful for throat inflammation.</p>
<p><span id="more-265"></span>Green papaya was used as a folk remedy for contraption and abortion.  The latex fluid from the unripe papaya can cause uterine contractions, which may lead to miscarriage, though this has never been proven. The black seeds in large quantities showed contraceptive effects on rats and adult male monkeys</p>
<p>Excessive consumption of papaya, as of carrots, can cause the yellowing of soles and palms which is otherwise harmless</p>

<p>All he did was consume six ladies fingers in a day. Not only had his bowel movement improved, his blood sugar level reduced from 135 to 98, his cholesterol level and acid reflux well under control.</p>
<p><span id="more-261"></span>Many diseases begin in the colon. Unlike wheat bran, which is harsh and can irritate the intestinal tract, okra’s mucilage facilitates comfortable elimination by its slippery characteristics, which many people abhor. By just including okra in your diet, you would have a storehouse of valuable nutrients, which include soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamin B6, folic acid, calcium and a load more of other vitamins and minerals. The soluble fiber helps to lower serum cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease while the insoluble fiber helps in decreasing the risk of some forms of colon-rectal cancer. Caution for those suffering from gout, take them in moderation.</p>
<p>When preparing okra dishes it is important to remember not to overcook this vegetable. It should be lightly steamed or cooked on low heat to retain the nutrients and the self-digesting enzymes.<br />

<p>How do you eat your orange? Peel them, leaving the white pith intact or peel it really clean; skin and pith all out or you just quarter them and take it from there? Or juice it?</p>
<p>According to research, the white pith is an important source of fiber and flavonoids and the juicy orange segments contain vitamin C. So what happens when we discard the white pith and consume only the orange segments? Flavonoids in the orange are lost. Flavonoids and vitamin C work hand in hand to support our health through its interaction.</p>

<p>Armpit sweating is one way our body keeps itself from overheating. However, excessive sweating is more of a bane than a boon. We feel sweaty and smelly too. It can be embarrassing.</p>
<p>We could use antiperspirant and deodorants but there is one natural way – baking powder.</p>

<p>Baking powder is a natural antiperspirant. It composes of an alkaline baking soda, some acid salts and an inert starch like corn flour.</p>
<p>We can add corn starch to get the consistency we like. We could also mix with talcum powder. Talc is also an inert compound.</p>
<p>I first saw this home remedy used effectively in Indonesia.</p>
<p>Of course the best advice is to bathe more often.</p>

<p>Today I shall share a tip for those who suffer from gastritis or bloating of the stomach.</p>
<p>Gastritis or gastric pains is a terrible thing to suffer from. I know this from experience. It was by accident that I found myself cured.</p>
<p>When people suffer from sour stomach, indigestion, gas or a general stomach upset, the first thing that most would reach for would be<a href="http://www.faqs.org/health/topics/50/Antacids.html"> antacids</a>. It works by neutralizing the the acid in the stomach. The active ingredient could be aluminium hydroxide, calcium carbonate and a host of other similar chemicals. Some may have simethicone, which relieves gas.</p>
<p>These are not meant to be taken over long periods.</p>
<p>What helped me was mineral water. I was working in jakarta then and had constant gastric pains before I arrived. Now Jakarta was not known for its great hygiene and the solution was to buy drinking water. In fact, I had a dispenser and had a store house of mineral water bottles. Real mineral water fresh from the spring. I believe so because then, fake bottled water was not in vogue.<span id="more-245"></span></p>
<p>I used the water for soup, for cooking never the tap water. Over a few months, I noticed the gastritis did not bother me so much and my appetite improved. Before I realized it, I was cured. I could indulged in spicy and oily food without problems. Other than an increased cholesterol level!</p>
<p>The trick is to drink lots of water when the symptoms start. I found that drinking a big glass helps to neutralize the pain at the same time pushes the gas out resulting in a burp providing relief. Mineral water does not contain the chlorine and what-have-you which cause stomach lining irritations. Maybe the pH value was neutral which aids the stomach wall to heal.</p>
<p>Try it but as a word of caution, if your suffering persists, it is wise to see a doctor to check for other underlying problems.</p>

<p>Anyone who has a hypertension problem will agree that taking drugs to manage blood pressure is a daily chore. It is expenditure and unless you like visiting the doctor and pharmacist, it will be many trips to replenish your drug supply.</p>
<p>Natural health advocates have suggested drinking apple cider vinegar. I know an elderly friend who swears by the goodness of Bragg’s apple cider vinegar. She claims that it is good for arthritis, indigestion and back pain.</p>
<p>Another use is as a sleeping aid although I don’t see how.  A glass of red wine maybe.</p>
<p>But no harm giving it a try. Monitor the results. It may be empirical but if you do have something to tell us, drop a line here.</p>
